By Apoorva Jayachandran : YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) president YS Sharmila attacked Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and said that women in Telangana were not respected during his rule. Wearing a black badge, Sharmila said that she would write to the National Women’s Commission and file a complaint.

This comes after Sharmila was taken into preventive custody in Mahabubabad district on Sunday for making alleged derogatory remarks against the BRS MLA. She was detained and brought to Hyderabad to avoid a law and order situation during her Praja Prasthanam Padyatra in Mahabubabad district.

YS Sharmila wore a black badge, and said that this looked like yet another attempt of house arrest, similar to the incident that happened after Narsampet.

“Today, Telangana is No. 1 in crime against women. I wish to give a formal complaint to the state women’s commission. I shall also proceed further if needed. I will be meeting the governor as well,” YS Sharmila said.

She added, “I am wearing a black ribbon because women in Telangana are not respected. This disrespect is so evident in the attitude of the ruling party leaders. BRS party ministers/leaders and even MLAs make derogatory comments against women. Why should we, women, remain silent against all this?”

“Every voice raised against the ruling party is crushed. My voice is crushed today, just because I’m gaining foothold in Telangana. All this proves KCR is afraid of me and that’s why all efforts are being made to suppress our initiatives,” she said.

Reacting to her arrest, YS Sharmila said, “What the police are not saying is that the derogatory comment was first made by the MLA himself. The MLA, who is an ST, first made derogatory comments against me. They are sending across a message that people in the ruling party can say anything, but the opposition must remain silent. It is his speech that triggered my reaction.”

“The same thing that happened in Narsampet was repeated again. What happened in Mahbubabad was history. The padayatra was foiled because the padayatra was successful. Everything went well and that’s why BRS goons decided to create a law and order problem. They created it and put the blame on me. Police arrested me and brought me back to Hyderabad,” she added.
