By Siraj Qureshi: Union minister Dr Mahendra Munjpara on Monday said that if the country is to become self-sufficient, women must play an active role.
The MoS for Women and Child Development told India Today that the impact of taking steps towards gender equality is visible in India.
Munjpara highlighted three schemes—Mission Shakti, Mission Poshan, and Mission Vatsalya—and the role they play in empowering women.
He added that the enrollment of girls in the higher education system was 19.8 per cent before the National Education Policy and has now increased to 27.3 per cent.

The minister told the G20 guests that efforts are being made to make at least one person in every family digitally literate through the Pradhan Mantri Gram Digital Saksharta Abhiyan.
There are more than three lakh common service centres in the country, in which one million people are employed. About three lakh of these are women, he said.
Nag Naidu, secretary of the G20, pointed out that eliminating the gender gap in child labour participation could also significantly increase the world’s gross domestic product. In this way, only by reducing the difference will the GDP be able to increase by 30 per cent.
