By Mustafa Shaikh: Former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday addressed a rally in Khed, the first after losing the Shiv Sena name and the bow and the arrow symbol. He came down hard on the BJP over coalition with Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma’s party NPP in Meghalaya at the rally.

Questioning BJP’s alliance in Meghalaya, Uddhav Thackeray said, “Amit Shah said so many things and levelled corruption allegations against Conrad Sangma. Amit Shah said Sangma’s family owns the state, eats the money of the poor and Meghalaya is the most corrupt state government in the country. The day the results were out, PM Modi declared support for Sangma.”

“Amit Shah in Pune said that I licked the boot of the Congress and the NCP to become the chief minister. Now what are you doing in Meghalaya? You have no shame?” Uddhav said, attacking the saffron party.

“BJP talks of nepotism. I tell them yes, I am the son of Balasaheb Thackeray. My family has been serving Maharashtra for six generations. Rather than stealing my father’s photo, put Modi’s photo and fight the elections,” Uddhav Thackeray said.

Taking a jibe at the BJP over cow urine (gau mutra), he said, “Did our country attain independence by sprinkling cow urine? Did it happen that cow urine was sprinkled & we got freedom? This was not the case, freedom fighters sacrificed their lives, then we got independence.”

Alleging that the BJP was stealing the names, Uddhav said, “They stole the names of Sardar Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose and now Balasaheb Thackeray. “Sardar Patel banned RSS, they stole the name of Sardar Patel. Similarly, they stole Subhash Chandra Bose and did the same with Balasaheb Thackeray. I challenge them to ask for votes in Modi’s name and not in the name of Shiv Sena and without Balasaheb Thackeray’s photo.”

Targeting the Election Commission, Uddhav said if EC is suffering from cataract, it should come and see the ground situation. You (the Election Commission) have taken away the party name and the symbol from us, but you can’t take away Shiv Sena from me. If people’s mandate decides that I should sit at home, I’ll do so. Like I left Varsha, I would leave and go home. But I will not do so on order of EC.”

Uddhav said that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal met him in Mumbai and said that we should fight together. Opposition parties have written a letter to PM Modi over misuse of central agencies.

“The way EC has now been monitored by the Supreme Court, the time has come to restrict central agencies,” he said.

Targeting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Uddhav said, “Words like anti-national are being used for us. Are we anti-national? People like Anil Parab and Rajan Salvi saved the lives of many people in the Mumbai riots. Later he had to clarify. We are nationalists.”
